No narrative gaming experience has made me so emotional or connected to characters just with still frames and chunks of text. Banner Saga is a reminder that good storytelling comes down to good writing and hard decisions, and this game has both. The deep lore and tough but fair turn-based tactical gameplay is somewhere between reading a novel and playing a board game, which are two of my favorite things to do. This fall, as the weather turns, grab a cup of something hot and lose yourself in one of the most beautiful worlds ever conceived.
