"Race the Sun" is unforgiving, punishing, and more existentially cruel than a Sartre play. Granted, very little of that matters, because, well, it's just so gosh darn pretty and fun to play. The premise is simplicity itself: the player pilots a bird like ship through the ruins of a geometrically cryptic but oh so beautiful world. The ship relies on power provided by the constantly setting sun. Once the sun sets, the ship is dead in the water – or air, as it were. That is, unless the geometrically complex to rain doesn't lead to its explosive end first. The controls are simple, yet the game demands their complete mastery if one is to fulfill the myriad of challenges, unlocked by a surprisingly addictive leveling system. This game did not do well on the PC despite critical acclaim, but it remained a staple on my hard drive since its release. I write this in the hopes that mobile sales will boost its visibility: this game is crazy good, and is well worth your $5.
